Lost and Found.. History [Completed]

By Fenrir | February 13, 2013

This morning rumor has it that Fenrir looked to be quite frantic from his usual demeanor- so worried was he that the note he tagged to the bulletin in front of the Narrowhaven Inn would be askew;

"Dear Citizens of Narrowhaven,

It appears that a couple of days ago I have lost a very cherished heirloom during my travels- a simple rusty key. It's value is truly emotional to me, otherwise why would I trifle you with such a silly task? If you are interested in more details find me in Narrowhaven- and as you might expect, I am offering a generous reward for the finding of this small, rusty key; ranging from gold to either gems of power or other valuable equipment.

Thank you kindly for your consideration. ~Fenrir"

A Purpose…

By Olorin | February 13, 2013

I once had a purpose in life, it was to destroy very powerful, evil monsters, bosses if you will. Each day I would return to slay them, sometimes by myself, sometimes with my Lady Friend, sometimes in large groups. My goal was to rid the land of these horrific plagues. Despite being destroyed each day, somehow they would return. I told myself I wanted to slay them for good, to never have them return, but I was lying to myself. One day, several weeks ago I ventured to a place where one of these creatures is often known to lurk. He was not there, only then did I realize I was smiling, as my smile turned to a frown at the unexpected disappearance. Across the land I scoured, searched every dark place these horrific creatures would frequent. They are gone. I should be happy, it seems my goal is complete, but happiness eludes me. I’ve taken to the bottle now, to idle away the hours. It seems, it was not the goal that drove me, it was having a purpose. The purpose and glory that was to slay these horrible beasts. I was a hero, at least in my own mind. Now I smell of booze, and my beard is crusted with dried food, a shadow of my former self, I am without purpose…. I could never wish for these monsters to return to the land, but secretly, in my heart, I do wish that…

Report on Paroxysmus

By Blake | February 12, 2013

The Palace of Paroxysmus : A report on the dangers within

The opening to the Dungeon is located in the Lost Lands, Northwest of Papua in an area known as Beggar's Gorge. Stumbling upon the area it may simply look like a bottomless pit. But I can assure you, there is a bottom and it is not pleasant. I tied my rope to the base of a nearby tree and left myself plenty of slack, as I knew not how deep the pit would be.

Image

The floor of the cave was not as deep as I would have thought but the smell was overwhelming. There was a river to my right. Not a nice flowing river of pretty blue water. It looked more like a clumpy river of acid. I decided it best to avoid touching the liquid as I knew not what it may be. Knowing not what dangers may be close I decided to hide straight away.

Image

I crossed the river on a few stones slipping by a few Acid Elementals and Corrosive Slimes. I some began to descend deeper into the cave and came upon a Poison Elemental. The dangers were evident. This was not a nice place to be alone.

Image

I followed the river closely as it must lead to the depths of the pit. In short time I came upon a Moloch such as I had read tales about in the library of Britain. A few steps later the real danger of this cave presented itself; in the form of a Golden Balron!

Image

I slinked past the two quietly and came upon a set of steps. A Balron kept watch over the steps so I decided I might try to see what was up there. The body of the last weary traveler lay tore to shreds on the stone floor. I hoped only that my fate not meet his.

Image

I escaped quietly the area of torture and made my way further along the path. The air inside the pit is stale and smells of flesh and fecal matter. The corrosive smell of the acid river is not very welcoming either. I made my way to what seemed as a dead end and decided to track what might be lurking nearby. Poison Elementals, Plague Beasts, and some tracks I knew nothing of. Later I would stumble upon the Interred Grizzle and notice these tracks matched the ones at the end of that path.

Image

I turned about face and made my way back towards the smell of acid. I crept past numerous Balrons, Daemons, Elementals, and even a few floating Fey. I found at the end of the river a lake of corrosive death. An island formed in the middle of the lake and a pedestal made of stone close by. A rusty old cauldron sat at the top of the steps. On the rim was a residue of a slimy ointment.

Image

With no way apparent to cross this lake to reach the gates of the island, I decided to make my way back and find an exit. Along the way back I noticed a region with many Corrosive Slimes.

Image

Perhaps the slimes were the ingredient used to make the residue on the cauldron. I would have to research the matter at the library for further information. AS I reached the entrance to the cave I realized that my rope was not acid proof. It had melted in the short time I had been exploring the cave. I would have to find another exit and did so quickly. A set of steps leaves the cave and exits Southeast of the above-ground hole; just across a small mountain range.

Image

I set out for Britain and the library near the Lord's Castle. I asked the librarian if he knew anything about Beggar's Gorge but of course he had only read little about it. He pointed me towards his books and I began to research. A book about the Gorge hinted to a beast known as Paroxysmus. He must be what resides on that island in the corrosive lake.

An Easy Job

By Blake | February 12, 2013

"Ceara, meh bank chest please." Blake pauses for a moment and thanks the lass for retrieving it. He places a few gold coins into the box and tells the banker about a dungeon he had found.
"Full o' elementals! All diff'rent colours! Copper ones, Gold ones, Dark ones, and some that looked loike Valoroite!"
The young lass seemed not much to care. But the story piqued the interest of a certain Lady Dark Elf. Blake had met Scala before but had only spoken briefly with her. She approached the Ranger about the cave. She even said she would pay him to show her where the Valorite Elementals dwell.
"Ye wanneh pay me ter show ye a few elementals?," Blake shrugs. "Ahh 'ell. Oi've nothin' but toime anyways."
Hawthorne escorted the Dark Elf through a moongate and northwest around a mountain range. The journey was long but the route was fairly safe. He kept his eyes on the ground and to the trees. He had a tendency to track as he strolled. Never know what might be around a bend.
After a three hour walk, the pair came to a blacksmith's hut. And a set of rail tracks leading into the mouth of a mine. "Thes es the place. Many elementals insoide. All diff'rent koinds o' colours."
The Lady Elf seemed skeptical but offered a heavy coinpurse for the information. She insisted Blake show her in at least for a few steps. He lit a torch and led the way. She smirked as she saw the first group of Earth Elementals spotted by a few Dull Copper ones as well.
She then offered the Ranger another job. She told him she would return later to this mine and insisted he follow her through a portal.
Upon arrival through the mooongate, Blake saw a large gaping crater. He knew not where the pit led and he was unsure he wanted to venture inside. Hawthorne loves a good scouting trip; often times wandering into caves alone for the thrill of sneaking past some of the most horrific beasts in the land. The Lady Scala asked the Ranger to scout this dungeon and report back in writing what he found inside. Blake nodded and prepared himself for the descent.

Race: Werewolves

By Sio | February 10, 2013

This is the lore for Werewolves, that a few of us play. Anyone interested in playing with this lore I ask that you do so maturely and respectfully. If you would like to have a character become a half blood werewolf, such a thing can be arranged, via RP.

Werewolf Resource

Werewolf Types

1. Pureblood

A Pureblood werewolf is born from two werewolf parents. Purebloods
inherit the abilities of their parents. The child will have all
combined abilities from both parents. The child will not show signs
until they mature, usually around the age of eighteen.

2. Half-blood

A Half-blood werewolf is created by drinking the blood of a Pureblood
werewolf. This is usually done in a ceremony in which the Pureblood
gives its blood willingly. The person must drink approximately one half
pint of werewolf blood, if they fail to drink it all immediately (drinking
without stopping untill it's all gone) there is a chance, while small,
they may become Feral.

3. Feral

A Feral werewolf can be created in several ways. They are the most Common
type of werewolf. They can be created when a person is bitten by another
werewolf. A Feral can also be created when the ceremony to create a
Half-blood fails.

Werewolf Abilities/Weaknesses

1. Transformations
Each type of werewolf has the ability to transform, however the different
types are capable of different levels of this ability. There are two different
forms that can be taken. Beast-form; which is half-human half-wolf. A humanoid
figure with wolf head, fur, claws, tail, and pawed feet. They stand on their feet
as a human would. Wolf-form; which is when the werewolf takes on the form of a wolf.
The type of wolf they appear as depends on the persons appearance and personality.
Timber wolf, Dire wolf, Grey wolf, Arctic wolf, and Dark wolf are the wolf forms.

~Pureblood~
A Pureblood can change shape as many times and at any time, they are not
restricted by the time or moon. Can change shape numerous times per day.
They can take on both forms.

~Half-blood~
A Half-blood can change shape once or twice per day, depending on the success of the
ceremony when they became a werewolf. They can change regardless of time of day or
moon cycle. However they may find it more difficult to change shape during the day.
They can take on both forms.

~Feral~
A Feral can only change shape with the moon cycle, they also have no control over
the transformation. They can only take on Beast-form.

2. Fast Healing
Werewolves have a natural ability to heal wounds faster, and are more resiliant to
damage to their bodies. Silver weapons will negate this ability, damage done by silver
will have a normal healing rate.

3. Heightend Senses
Werewolves gain the heightend senses of a wolf, they will have a better sense of smell,
sight, and hearing.

4. Vulnerable to Silver
Werewolves are vulnerable to silver. Silver will cause them serious harm and prevent
them from healing unless the silver is removed from their bodies. Magic will not heal
wounds caused by silver as it would a regular wound. It will still heal the wound but
at a very slow rate. Stitching the wound and bandaging it is the best course of action.
If silver were to puncture the heart of a werewolf it would cause immediate death.
All werewolves are vulnerable to silver.

5. Immortality
Werewolves are capable of achieving immortality. This is a difficult task that
usually causes most werewolves to become evil in trying to accomplish this.
Should a werewolf devour the heart of a person who truly hates the werewolf, then
that werewolf would gain the years of life remaining of that person. (had the
werewolf not killed them) Thus extending their own life span.

6. Transformation Shock
Should a werewolf try to transform too frequently, the shock caused by the transformation
to the body could kill them. Transformation is an incredably painful experience,
and not one that is enjoyed by any werewolf.

7. Disease Immunity
All werewolves are immune to disease. As Lycanthrope is considered a disease and will kill
off any other virus that may try to enter the body. This prevents werewolves from becoming
undead through means of vampires.

8. Mental Shielding
Werewolves have a high resistance to any sort of mental control. This is because their minds
are unlike any other. Those who practice controlling the minds of humans may not be able
to control a werewolf at all due to the fact that they are part animal. The mind is not made
up the same any longer and the process will not work as it does in humans. It is very dangerous
to try to control a werewolf because once in beast-form the werewolf may turn on their
controller.

9. Partial Transformation
Purebloods are capable of this with practice, it can be passed to half-bloods but it is rare.
This allows the werewolf to quickly gain muscle mass for a short time, giving them werewolf
strength in their human form. This can also be dangerous as the shock to the body can cause
permanent damage.

Becoming a Werewolf

To become a werewolf a person needs to either be bitten by a werewolf or drink
the blood of a werewolf. The lycanthrope is a disease that is transfered through
blood or salivia. Blood is the best way to transfer it to another person.

~Feral~
Being bitten by a werewolf will cause the person to transform into a feral werewolf
on the next full moon. It is possible to to become a half-blood instead of a feral
by drinking the blood of a werewolf before the first full moon after being bitten.
If this is not done then every full moon the person will transform into the
Beast-form and go on an uncontrolled rampage.

~Half-blood~
Once a person drinks the blood of a werewolf they will immediately transform into the
Beast-form, after that they will shift into Wolf-form. Staying transformed for too long
the first time can be dangerous as the chance of going feral for a half-blood during the
first transformation exists and poses a threat so it is important to immediately change
back into the human form once acheiving the wolf-form.

~Pureblood~
Purebloods are born werewolves, once they come of age they gain their abilities naturally.

Ceremony

The ceremony to become a half-blood werewolf can be dangerous as there is always a chance
that it could fail and create a feral instead. In order for the best chances of success
there should be a pureblood present to give the blood for the person to drink.

Steps in the Ceremony

1. A pure or half-blood werewolf should transform into their Beast-form. Once in beast-form
they must spill their blood into a cup or bowl for the person becoming a werewolf to drink.
Transforming before taking the blood lowers the risk of creating a feral, drinking the blood
of a pureblood werewolf lowers it further.(this comes into play should they fail to drink
all of the blood)

2. Drinking the blood, this can be tough for any human and may cause them to gag or vomit.
Should they fail to drink all the blood or vomit it up then there is a chance they can
become feral.
~DICE CHECKS~ (use a D20)
[DC12]- upon successful roll the person managed to drink all the blood.
- 1-2 is a critical fail, did not drink at all and may attempt again.
- 3-11 fail, drank some but did not finish or vomited back up the blood.
IF FAILED
Pureblood [DC8]
Half-blood [DC10]
Humanform [DC14]
Depending on what blood was used the person must then perform this DC in order to see if they
will become Feral for failing to drink the blood.

3. Ability Transfer
If they successfully drank the blood without fail, then all of the abilities will be
transfered to the new werewolf. If they failed to drink all of the blood then only some
abilities will be transfered. If failed roll for the percentage that transfer.
Abilities that may fail to transfer are;

Fast Healing (1-70%)
Heightend Senses (71-100%)
Partial Transformations (does not transfer if failed)

4. Transformation
After drinking the blood they will then transform into beast-form, and then to wolf-form.
They must transform back into human form to complete the process. Once they have returned to
human form the ceremony will be complete. It is an exhausting trail for the new werewolf and
their body will require rest after such stress put upon it.

Werewolf Appearances

~Feral~
Feral werewolves once in their beast-form will look much like another werewolf in beast-form
with subtle differences. They will have red eyes, and salivate much more.

~Half-blood and Pureblood~
Both of these types will have golden eyes, and will be able to transform into wolf-form.
Their wolf-form depends upon the person. Their hair color in human form will also determine
which wolf-form they take on.
Blonde - Arctic, Grey, and Dire
Brunette/Black - Dark, Grey, and Dire
Red - Timber, Grey, and Dire

Grey is the most common color of fur for werewolves. The Dire form is only added based on
personality of the person. Those with an aggressive and ruthless personality will be the
Dire form of which ever type of wolf is in their hair category.

Playing a Werewolf

Important things to remember while playing a werewolf are that your transformations are
extremely painful. Bones and muscles are tearing appart and reforming during the transformation
so keep that in mind. First parts of the transformation are going to be chest pains and
shift in eye hue. The chest pains are caused by the heart expanding, it is the first thing to
change and the rest of the body will soon change.

It is possible for werewolves in beast-form to speak, however it will carry the sound of
growls as an undertone to the speach. It will be difficult at first so it will be something
that is learned and not instantly picked up. You have a new mouth you need to learn how to
speak out of it.

When in wolf-form, werewolves can communicate with each other as wolves do. This is done
through growls, chirps, barks and body language.

Much like wolves, werewolves have a pack mentaility. There is an alpha male and alpha female
who lead the pack. The pack is like a family, and they all work together towards a common
goal. Usually survival. Feral werewolves are the only ones who do not adhere to this.

Should you become a Feral werewolf then it is important to remember that you can only transform
on the full moon. For moon cycles it is best to go by real life moon cycles as ingame ones
may occur every few hours. Once transformed feral werewolves are filled with rage and bloodlust
and will go on a rampage killing anything they find. Feral werewolves don't go around just
biting people, they kill. It is very rare to survive an attack from a feral werewolf.
Unless the feral was killed during the attack or by other means incompacitated.

For Purebloods and Half-bloods, once they reach wolf-form their instincts will take over.
They will have memory of events that took place during their time as a wolf, but a lower
level of self-control as they will be very wolf-like. With time they will gain more control
over this state of transformation.

Transformations usually take a few minutes to complete, with years of practice the transformation
can be sped up but attempting this may cause greater damage to the body.

A Step Towards Madness

A Step Towards Madness

Sitting quietly in front of the Altar, I wasn't sure anymore. Recently, the absence or cruel lack of living presence in my cell was becoming heavy to hold. The Family members were leaving a bitter taste that seemed to infect most of my days. Perhaps, I had grown angry, or is it me that is already falling in the arms of madness? I thought I would have, as the very least, two hundred years before that happens. Maybe I was mistaken, maybe, maybe...

The silence of the statue wasn't helping my worries either. Would he be the dark one I remember him being? Or would he be quiet, absent, ghostly... weak? I was not sure I would be able to endure one more of them acting like this. I wish one would dare ask me anything this eve. I highly doubt I would be able to keep down my words. Ironically enough, at this thought, I saw a familiar shadow approach me in complete silence. At last, someone that will have to answer some questions of mine.

- Scarlet, your violent feelings woke me up in surprise. What do you hate this much?

- I hold deep hatred for emptiness. Something you are mostly completely filled with, Asmodeus. Aren't you?

- Oh, is it going to be like that, tonight? You have forgotten my powers over you again... A shame.

- Who has power again? Should I make you remember that you are nothing... barely existing? You need me, but the opposite isn't true, sadly for you... what if I decided to change my mind? I could abort my plans and throw it all over my shoulder without caring much... and I have met someone interesting.

That last part seemed to shake him, somehow. I had let my arrogance guide my lips, and I have to admit it was quite distracting to see his facial expression. Oh, he was the angry one now..! Truth hurts, he always said to me. It seems to be very true, after all. I heard a raging growl, coming from him, and I had no time to react that he grabbed my hair and pushed my face close to the flames of the statue. It is not often that I can truly feel any warmth, since the temperature of my own skin was quite higher than humans... but at that moment, I couldn't ignore it. Pearls of sweat started to decorate my forehead, resulting from a mix of heat and shameful fear of him. There are some memories one cannot ever forget.

- You will fall! I will witness your own destruction Scarlet! Pushing away everyone around you again. Can't you trust anybody at all? I will laugh, and you -will- bring me back, because you -have- to. I am sure you haven't forgotten what sad events could happen to you if ever you chose not to.

A noise outside my cell brutally made this fighting end and freed me from the threat of flames. I looked over my shoulder, ready to protect myself from any further dangers, but I was alone again. How can he talk about choices when there were truly only one reasonable option? That's pure treachery. Maybe the answer to my problems is somewhere else. Somewhere over this buried prison. Somewhere along somebody stronger than me, stronger than most. Maybe, maybe...

Im going on an ? Tale one of the great Popo smallburrows

By Ko Jhago | February 10, 2013

Smoke billowed up from the bowl of the long shire pipe as PoPo lit the chamber and took a couple of quick puffs. Satisfied with the red glow of the weed now smoldering, he admired the freshly swept hobbit hole and gave an ascending hum of approval. "Mhmm." A pleasant smile puffed his plump cheeks, followed by a merry chuckle that filled the room.

"The wifey will be surprised when she gets back! Hmmm.... She's been gone awhile. Where did that lass get to?"

He pushed the round wooden door open and stepped into the afternoon sun, blinking twice as his eyes adjusted. PoPo looked down the path towards the town proper where he had last seen his wife earlier that morning and set down the winding path.
Narrowhaven boasted quite the collective of shoppes, merchants and a rather grand (and populated) inn. Knowing his young wife's like for vanilla mead, he popped into the inn first, weaving in and out past the long legs of the humans that crowded the bar, all the while saying "Excuse me... Pardon me" as he made his way through.

One patron burst out into a roaring laugh, his arm lifted high in a merry salute and knocking his foamy ale into the arm of the next man, forcing the amber liquid to slosh out of the mug and onto the floor just in front of PoPo's feet. Quick as a cat he hopped back, narrowly missing the toe of the man behind him. "Nope... Too crowded for her likes."

Quickly he left and stepped into the lane, though he did not get far. Just beyond the wooden slatted gate of the inn sat a fluffy [white? pink?] bunny, pristine and rather out of place. Popo gave the bunny an odd look and was ready to dimiss it until it spoke.

"Hello!"

He blinked once, gave a nod and replied, "Hello to ye."

"What are you doing?" The bunny's nose twitched, making its whiskers see-saw up and and down.

"I'm looking for my wife. She's been gone a while. I wanted to show her the new
home
." He took a puff from his pipe, relaized it had gone out and struck another match.

"A new home?" The bunny asked with curiosity.

"Mhmm. Would you like to see it? It's a fine looking hobbit hole if I do say so myself!"

"Is it far?" The bunny asked.

"Not at all, just a small ways down the lane."

The fluffly [white? pink?] bunny followed PoPo down the winding lane back towards the hobbit hole, proud that he was to show it off to someone appreciative. Soon, they arrived and he pushed in the round wooden door and in hopped the bunny.

A hobbit hole, for those who do not know, are stately places, many rooms that sprawl underground into the sides of hills and mountains. As cozy as they are, it is no wonder that a Hobbit will take great pride in their homes.

Popo showed the fluffy bunny around, taking it room to room. Just as the tour was nearly over and they came to the main room once more, an odd noise made him look around quickly. A floating red skull materialized directly across from the two, and hovered just a couple of feet from the floor. PoPo gasped, nearly taking a step back into the door he had just closed as his eyes widened.

"What is that?!" He exclaimed, feeling a little rise of his blood pressure. He could scarecely tear his eyes from the grotesque scene of the skull floating there, emitting a horrible sound with it. Suddenly, a voice came from his feet, darkly demonic, "Do you have something it wantssss...? Something that is possessssed...?"

Panic surged through PoPo's veins and his heart raced like a great team of horses in his chest, threatening to burst forth and take off without him. His hand absently slipped into his pants pocket, fumbling with something in it, though stealthy he was about it.

Shaking his head, he relied, "No... nothing! What could it want!" Before the bunny could say anything and before the skull could do something more than just hover and make the worst noise, PoPo vanished!

The fluffly bunny with the odd demonic voice blinked and its voice was back to its sweet tone, "Where did you go! Where did you go!"

The floating red skull slowly faded from the room and all was quiet, save for the bunny's searching tone. As soon as the coast was clear, PoPo appeared again and was met with a barrage of questions, "Where did you go? Did you see that! What happened to you?"

Hobbits are generous, polite folk, so it was rather odd how hastily he was escorting his new companion out of the door. "Well, look at the time! It is getting late and I really must be on my way to find my wife and bring her home. Now, be a good bunny and run along, hmm? "

With that he shoved the bunny out of the door and closed it behind it with an audible "click".
