The Death of a Legend and the Birth of a Tamer

By Searum | August 22, 2013

The Lost Lands were a place of chaos, its inhabitants had to fight a claw for what they had and In these lands are where the Marauders known as the Waves of Fire. The Leader of this group was known as Sire drake, whom alongside his Dragon Alinchard, became a force to be reckoned with in the Lost Lands. Stealing countless valuables from Creatures, orcs, and travelers. The Waves of Fire were comprised of many different races from various backgrounds and the only rule of the group was that noone left the Waves and that no one went against the Waves.
One night along the Papuan Borders a dark wizard approached the Waves encampment, passing by the soldiers without even drawing their attention almost as if he was not there. The Wizard slipped into Drakes tent and before he could speak he was greeted by Sire Drake waiting inside his tent along with four of his most trusted archers. Drake asked the wizard what his business was in their camp and the wizard explained how there was a ceremony he was attempting to perform in the Lands and he was willing to pay the Waves a kings treasure to protect the area during its occurrence. Sire Drake accepted and within the next day the camp was packed up and the Waves were on their way to the wizards ruins. During the trek, Alinchard warned Drake that there was something off about the wizard in that he was able to start such a ritual in the lands without their knowledge in the first place, but Drake simply dismissed the dragons worries as paranoia.
When the group arrived at the ruins, they found it to be overrun with the undead, the wizard seemed panicked and told Drake they must hurry to the center of the ruins and from there he could teleport them to the ritual site and that if they didn't act soon the treasure and the ritual would all be lost. drake gave his orders to his men and told Alinchard to stay behind outside the city with a small group as a base camp and to keep his son, Searum, Protected. Alinchard watched as the men fought their way through the undead and then disappeared among the ruins. Two days and nights went with no word from the group or the wizard and on the third night all that could be heard were screams. Searum awoke to the screams of the camps guard as undead and deamons tore them to shreds in their beds. He ran for the woods screaming for Alinchard, but there was no dragon to be seen. Searum ran for hours without stopping until he reached the top of a high mountain in the forest, from there he looked back down onto the ruins to see a giant undead dragon eating what was left of Alinchards corpse and Searum could barely make out the visage of a black hooded figure. Searum tried to hide the cold tears that fell from his cheeks as he wandered into the woods.

[SVN 735][8/16/2013] Crafting Quests, Passive Skill Gain…

By TheGuy | August 16, 2013

This is pretty big update and its got some really awesome changes!!! The tow most notable are the implementation of Passive Skill Gain & the new Quest Crafting System that will replace ‘Boring BODS’!!!

Passive Skill Gain!! I am supper excited about this one. Trance created the script for it a while back and we ran into a bug that we could not seem to figure out for the life of us. We asked Vii to take a look at it and he stopped what was going on! So if you see Trance or Vii in game or on the forums please make sure you thank them both!

Skill with 10 or more skill pts can increase. Skills must be in the ‘UP’ position. Skills can gain passively from 10 to 100. If 6 or more skill are in the up position you will currently get random gain every 3 hours you character is logged in. 3 to 5 skills in the up position will gain one random gain every 4 hours. And lastly if 1 or 2 skills are in the up position you will gain one skill every 5 hours.

The next big addition is the implementation of the Quest Crafting System & the ability to get rewards (including learning recipe scrolls)!! This new way of doing crafting quests will replace the old BOD system which will eventually be completely removed. You will be able to get crafting quests in the quest hall in Narrowhaven. I’ll be adding more crafting quests as time goes on! The supper cool thing about this is crafting will be able to triad in their Crating Coins for crafting specific rewards such as Runic Crafting Tools, Recipes Scrolls, Powerscrolls, and other Uber cool things!

And most importantly, we want to say a big thanks to everyone who helps out on the server! There are a number of really fine folks who help out on the server and we really appreciate everything that everyone does! It takes a lot of effort form many people to do what we have done, thanks everyone!!!!

A Smokey Aftermath

By Astra Vandoras | August 15, 2013

Leaf by leaf and page by page
Throw this book away
All the sadness, all the rage
Throw this book away

Rip out the binding and tear the glue
And all of the grief we never even knew
We had it all along, now, it's smoke

The things we've written in it
Never really happened
All the things we've written in it
Never really happened

And all of the people come and gone
Never really lived
all the people come have gone
No one to forgive, smoke

We will not write a new one
There will not be a new one
Another one, another one

Here's an evening dark with shame
Throw it on the fire
Here's the time I took the blame
Throw it on the fire

Here is the time that we didn't speak
It seemed for years and years
And here's a secret no one will ever know
The reasons for the tears
they are smoke, smoke, smoke

We will not write a new one
There will not be a new one
Another one, another one

Where do all the secrets live?
They travel in the air
You can smell them when they burn
They travel

Those who say the past is not dead
Can stop and smell the smoke
You keep saying the past is not dead
Well, stop and smell the smoke

You keep on saying the past
Is not even past
And you keep saying
We are, smoke, smoke, smoke

The Strange Tale of a Drunken Squirrel

By e1975b | August 14, 2013

THE BARD: "Come sit and make merry as I tell you the tale told to me by the strangest creature I have ever met or seen, I found him on the beach one day and for the fine cost of a flagon of wine this is the tale he did speak to me"
THE STRANGE TALE OF A DRUNKEN SQUIRREL
Many many moons ago there was a distant land of dreams woven in mists and shadow. In this land of dreams when life ended in this world the spirit unfulfilled would drift to the realm of dreams to find his or her home and final contentment before joining unto the stars, the joy of their immoral light emblazoned upon the skies for all the universe to see and share.
One day there was such a squirrel born, who falling from his tree in the world of the living met an untimely end, and waking in the realm of dreams dancing upon silver beams of moonlight and shadow was taken into the home of two young dragons.
It has been said that in elder days before Humans ever walked the earth there were Elves, and before Elves there were Dragons. But in time many of the Dragons out of fear of being hunted magically took human form, and breeding with humans created those of the Draconic lineage.
Azlynn and Adokul were two such children from two differing houses; Adokul a poor blacksmiths son, and Azlynn a noble huntress of the woods, neither of noble or royal birth. Yet for all their simplicity they held a beauty and a kindness not found among mortals in all the land. And so it was that upon Wintumbers eve (December 1st) that they found in the glade north of their town a moongate opened and a small child fell through. Not a human child but an infant squirrel, a child of the forest, whom Azlynn immediately decided to raise for her own. Not knowing what to name the strange gift the Gods had bestowed upon them the babe was taken to lady Adelle Theriott, a wise woman, and forest Goddess in disguise who was fated to be the young creature's God mother unknowingly.
The maiden of the forest looked into the strange blue eyes of the squirrel reading into what is, and was, and all that could be as the tiny babe licked the end of her finger curiously. "This one has a name she murmured to herself... he is called Tra'Wyn... in the old tongue for in days to come he shall be a musician of the trees. So shall he leap in air on earth, and be tried through joy and bitterness and fire, but if he is faithful someday... someday he may find the home which he seeks...." And handing the babe back to the young couple she blessed his naming ceremony and vanished into the wood.
The young couple later that summer after many years of courtship found it only just that they should marry, and preparing to hand fast after the traditions of their forefathers they again went to the sacred glade. "But what of this squirrel?" Adokul asked his beloved, "Are we to adopt, how will he ever be as one of us?" "Oh dear but we must, for he has no others in all this world save us", Azlynn chimed as they sat in the forest. Coming forward to the wedding their hands were joined and their hearts and the blessed words were spoken over them... then upon moonrise that night again the Goddess appeared and she spoke to them.
"If as one you wish to be, joined in holy unity, man and beast as family one, give your name unto your son" And Adokul and Azlynn placing one hand each over the young squirrels heart swore upon him the name of Tra'Wyn Ap Don... as fire lept from their hands arching in a binding circle. As the moon rose in strength it seemed to grow and fill the glade with a soft blue silvery light changing the features of Azlynn and her husband... hers becoming a soft blue and his a deeper color. "What is happeneing", he cried looking toward the forest maiden, "what! my wife and I, please what..." "SILENCE MORTALS", the goddess commanded as the three dared not move... The squirrel's eyes opened with a golden light in them as mother and father felt an etherial glow of warmth and acceptance surround them in the forest with a strange englightened gift of hearing and scent unlike anything they had ever felt before" "For your love of this little one the powers within you have been awakened", you are in your brithright of the blood Drakken from times before time recorded... forgotten, I restore unto you your kindred, but know this your child when he should come of age when first he shall find true love shall be forced upon him the choosing, whereupon as each of you has given and recieved the third part of their very memories, knowledge, and essence he now shall be 2 parts dragon and one part squirrel as you are both now one part squirrel and two parts dragon. When the change shall overtake him he must choose a drake to be, and forsake the squirrel within, or forever a beast of a strangeness unlike any the land has ever known." From this day forward the squirrel began to speak as though he were human... or perhaps something more...
As years went by the men came and began to hunt and slay the dragons, driving magic away from the homes of men and casting hatred upon all of their kind, making a once noble race into pets, mounts, or trophies to decorate ones hearth for the pride of the kill. Among dragons all are considered a form of kindred seperated only by color and power, so it was young Tra'Wyn met Fafnir the noble blue dragon of the midlands, but in time even Fafnir's great knowledge could not save him from the destructive force of men. For after teaching Tra'Wyn the ways of singing, hunting, and even the secrets of men in the sailing of great ships even Fafnir was forced to flee the onslaught of men as he dissappeared into the frozen north.
That midsummer night the young squirrel found in a glade a fairy trapped in a jar made of human cruelty by a silver band upon the lid. Opening the band and asking only her company and friendship the fairy confessed all to her young rescuer. And taking upon her true form as a spirit-like air miss of legend the young squirrel began to ask more and more of who and what she was, for he had never seen such a sight.
Many many moons later discovering if he took a jar of the water from her sacred pool with him on board his ship he could indeed bring her with him great distances the two of them began to sail enchanted waters, and danced and played with dolphins in the secret pirate caves where the long dead once hid their treasures, and it was within that cave that they found it....
Some say an Air miss is a spirit, others a fairy, but one thing is sure, of all the pirates to live and die upon the sea it has been said that Davy Jones was the first and in hell gates shall be the last to furl his sail. And upon sailing to a distant coast there they found it... a ship green and fading, covered in undead barnacles docked at a tavern with loud bawdy music pouring fourth from stern to prow... a tavern made of his wrecked ship, and at the help of the ship a miraculous thing... a magical pub which can never run dry, manned by the father of all the spirits of the sea, Ghost Jones himself. Steeling hisself Tra knelt before him swearing by teeth claw and tail, and asked to marry Nixie the Air Miss. "Oh I sees no great problem with yer arrangement young bucko", Jones replied,"Fer iffen ye marry my daughter of many I have left at port it is the missus ye must convince, an being ye be pirate as I, Ahh has doubts she will give ye audience." So sailing again for many months with his beloved the young squirrel would sing tales and songs each night as she filling his ships small sails with wind carried him across the water faster then any mortal. And soon by mid-tumns golden harvest he saw it... the golden fields of Rhiannons domain, the land of light and beauty where the fair folk danced and played in the autumn mist forever framed in the fading light of evensong.
Bowing low to the queen of the fairfolk he was siezed viciously, the sloping purple and green eyes of the angry soldiers and the glares of the queen promised to him a swift yet agonizing death, yet strangely as he stood there the Queens gaze had no effect on him, and upon looking at her seeing through the glamor with his draconic true sight he beheld a kindly old woman. Gracefully moving past and over her servants (as only a squirrel can do) he poured her tea and begged the hand of her daughter? When the Queen mother of the fey gave consent to the union after hearing her daughters request to give up her immortality and become a simple squirrel, the Queen called fourth the winds to clothe her in fur, finishing as the sun rose upon the last day of autumn's harvest, and so seeing her for the first time clothed in sunlight, so named her AY'RA (beauty of the sun).
For many many moons Tra was a happy young squirrel, dancing and singing in Ulsterian tavern Ay'ra and him purchased with the small chest of overflowing magical gold her father had given them as a wedding gift. And having made a fortune smuggling between the human and goblin nations Tra felt quite sure he was ready to raise a family when he took her to wife. But on their wedding night she was taken away from him by sea witches, who carrying her deep out into the storm she was forever lost and he beheld her no more.
Swearing he could find her as body and mind left him, Tra hired a band of undead pirates, who sailed with him past the gates to hellgate and back until as he stood before the portal flowing across the endless deeps down to the very pit of Yggdrasil he swore he would find her or not return in the flesh... and drowned, wrecking his beloved boat in the deeps of the sea. As blue became black and black faded into nothingness many months went by, his corpse lying bloated on the beach... but by his accursed luck it was not yet his time to die for before him clad in the black of death's robes himself stood Ratatosk, God of all Squirrels, who taking a sacred acorn from the great Eagle above, gave a piece to Tra to eat restoring his life in full and bid him choose to walk a path... from Dragon to the deep, or Squirrel to forever torment heaven and hell. Feeling a life debt to Ratatosk Tra chose the latter, and though still able to breath fire at times, he became a mature young dragon squirrel at winters solstice.
Then the Gods of the land had a terrible battle, mortal queens were slain and many old Gods left the land as many new were raised into the pantheon... As the magic left the land fewer and fewer animals and fey were seen, and more humans walked upon the new land, it shrunk! As the heart of the land began to fade into the mists the land itself began to shrink and Tra was forced to rapidly take all that he posessed and pack it into his ship as he began to fearlessly sail the hellgates of oblivion into a new land untainted yet by the souls of mortals.
Crashing on the beach he found the wreckage of many other survivors, his beloved uncles Gwydion and Gwyr, his favorite Aunt Bloodwed, and cousins Mave, Sereona, and others.... realizing he was not alone Tra embraced his family and quickly set to work to help them build a home and a library to preserve the history of their family and time honored name, a name not of nobility of men but of heart. And it was for many many years that Tra lived there in peace and happiness, mastering the art of weaponsmastery and bardic lore, until one day....
A storm of demonic perportions came in the night... ripping bodies from their houses carrying them high up into the air... not able to cling to mast or sail as the bodies began being torn from their homes leaving the land slowly empying Tra once again found himself flying through the maelstorm, the mark of Ratatosk's paw print glowing on his chest, an ever present reminder of the curse of immortality, and raising his pirate tankard to damn the skies before him he swore into the wind "If to hell gates I go... then to hell gates I go, but not on an empty gullet" and with his last breath of memory he downed the keg of Etherian Fey Wine... as he blacked out... for many moons... to find himself once again... cast through the moongates upon a strange beach, in a land completely unknown to him... forever seeking his beloved Ap Don family and a home he could call his own.
THE BARD: "Now if you happen to find this strange creature this one thing I would ask, as you have heard the tale, if his family you do find, help him to find his way home... for in this land there is no thing that we so value as home and those whom to whom we return to... good journey to ye all, and may fortune always be at yer back and in me pockets!"

A saga reaches it’s end

By Orlando | August 12, 2013

For nearly three decades Adair was always presented with hard paths. He followed his own moral compass to lead him and those that came to follow him towards some kind of salvation.

Nearly 20 years had passed since Adair had run away from home as a teenager. His father passed away in battle, his mind confused and distraught. He ran further that most of his privilege and rank would have. He found himself in the midst of pirates, for the first few years we was raped quite often as a cabin boy upon ships he was slaved out too. After a while he didn't even mind the torture, he started to enjoy it with a bit of Brandy on his tongue. As he grew he eventually mastered the bow, mostly in secret from throwing knives against the wall and when he was ready he escaped and stole a very precious round gem from the captain of the pirates. This gem imbued with magical properties, that were even unknown to him, granted him great favor in the eyes of those around him. With the assistance of his Grandfather, Adair made it back to civilization. There he spent a great deal of time trying to blend in, refusing to return home to the life he once knew, and the mother who missed him greatly.

During the first few years of his adult life Adair's magical prowess became quite well known. He was casting complicated spells and targeting foes with deadly accuracy. He learned to hide and stealth around to survive. Revealing himself only to those who really needed to know he was there. It wasn't long before Adair sparked the attention of the Moonglow Justicars. He ran for ages trying to hide his magic now, using it to survive wasn't enough any more he now has to become aggressive and start to target his enemies. Adair ran for several years before Clerist finally caught up to him and stopped him.

He pleaded for his life, begged the man to let him go, but he knew that his life was forfeit. He as most desperate men in his situation prayed for salvation, prayed to be freed from the mans prying grasp. Maybe it was his tears that convinced him to release him. He made Adair promise something that day. To undertake the paladins oath and protect the weak and punish the wicked. So he underwent the cleansing. Adair's soul was ripped from his body and thrown into a pit of darkness and dis pare. He fought countless monstrosities with only his spirit before he finally came to rest back in his body. It had taken him two years to pass the cleansing, nearly twice as long as other squires, but he never gave up. As soon as his strength recovered he started his pilgrimage to the shrines of the virtues. Discovering the paths before him. Adair had choice to swear to the paths of Sacrifice, honor, and compassion. Choosing to live by these principles he continued onward on his journey.

He joined the New Trinsic Militia and with them battled countless evils and protected the realms till a fateful day where Adair lost trust in its leader and vanished.

At 27 Adair returned home and assumed his fathers title of Count of Britanianna. It was only a year before the dragons were released from their cage and tore the world asunder. Having barely survived that, he managed to wake up on the shore of Narrowhaven, what was then a barren dump. Brick by brick he pieced together the village now known as the kingdom of Narrowhaven. Sacrificing time, money, life, he developed a new civilization for man to be proud of a new "home" for many.

Yet hi adventures did not even end here. Countless battles with new foes, and old ones pressured Adair until his will finally broke. He crafted his most dangerous Paladin spells and trapped them in a book and sent it out to the source of much of the danger. Reports of success flew in.. finally some peace... but not before the truth surfaced and the facts remained. This God was still alive and Adair had failed... Soon all the fingers were pointing at him. He had enough and casted a Holy spell and before he knew it he was looking down on his body. Nobody knew how often he prayed for the end, yet it refused to come.
The gods restored his body and he simply walked away...but now he lays in bed, sulking, tired, and afraid for his kingdom he built with his very hands. What will become of this Old soul?

(I think it's getting about time to put this character away indefinably he is 808 days old and he's been through a lot. There are more quests and stories than I know what to write about. I'm going to give him a week then Adair will go gliding quietly into the night)

We Didn’t Start the Fire

By Astra Vandoras | August 12, 2013

Image

We didn't start the fire,
It was always burnin' since the world's been turnin'.
We didn't start the fire.
No we didn't light it, but we tried to fight it.
We didn't start the fire,
It was always burnin' since the world's been turnin'
We didn't start the fire,
But when we are gone it will still burn on, and on, and on, and on.

She had taken to this cat form so easily it was as if she had a second skin. Astra could roam around town, virtually unseen, decidedly unknown even if she were seen, and she had her freedom again. Fenrir had found it amusing, and Scarlet had liked it as well. However, since the argument, Astra had stayed clear of her cousin. She couldn't have that madness around her, especially if what Scarlet had said was true - that madness would eventually come for her, as well. No, she had to work to be even more calm and normal.

Normalcy, something she had been blessed with her entire life, starting with her mother's common sense, to the fact that she had been so sheltered in the woods; even on the docks where men were terrible and young women could get hurt. That was before she had really begun to work on controlling her fire. So far it was going well.

Scarlet didn't see her, hidden just outside of her own home, as she walked purposefully down the road. Astra missed her terribly. She was the only friend the young woman had, other than Fenrir, and she was family, besides; the only family Astra had since her mother had disappeared. Curiosity got the better of her and the cat turned, slinking in the shadows, to follow her cousin through the keep gates, through the heavily barred doors, past the guard who was busy with something and not looking at the panther who stalked up the stairwell following the servants who opened the doors for her where she could sneak in and hide behind the standing blinds and watch Scarlet as she sat in one of the comfortable chairs, putting her hands to her head.

"That big mess I'm running into again," Scarlet wrinkled her nose in distaste. She seemed worried, but Scarlet was always worried. Her eyes were circled in bruises as if she lacked sleep, and she stretched lazily in the chair, stretching her legs out before herself. The guard from below walked through the doors, not noticing the black form against the darkness of the shadows, and strode into the room where Scarlet sat. "Is everything fine m'lady?"

"Salutations, Sir Heinrich," Scarlet looked over to him in tired amusement, "I'm glad you came. I fear I'll be in deep troubles in less than a few hours."

"In a few hours?" He queried in concern, removing his helmet to allow his long, black hair to flow out and down over his shoulders.

"Loyalty has a price and I bet I will have potential assassins after me."

The man straightened up further, indignantly, "Asassins, here? This is impossible!" Scarlet waved him off, "Don't be blind and innocent, I'll start to lose hope on surviving this one now."

"I am here to protect anyone in this keep, I wont let anyone harm you," he reassured her. "If you excuse me, I will get some dogs."

"Dogs?"

"Search dogs, m'lady."

"As you wish," she waved him off again, wearily, "I won't step a toe outside this place."

"Very well, if you need anything ask me," the guard placed his helmet back on again as Scarlet nodded, absently, "Thank you. Say hello to your wife for me."

"I will, m'lady," he replied as he bowed out of the room. It only took a moment for Astra to peek back at her cousin once more, and stealthily slip out through the closing doors, following the guard back out of the keep into freedom. As the doors closed she heard Scarlet musing behind her, "Now, now. How will I write this adieu?"

Though she'd gone home, Astra couldn't get those words out of her head. She tried to practice her spells, tried to meditate to learn to calm herself and control the flames, and even went out to release them on the scorpions and other deadly creatures on the beach - to no avail. As darkness began to descend, she found herself wandering back to the dangerous keep. The king was very kind. She liked him, but she couldn't get past how his prayer magic had burned her deep inside, when the rock man was there. Everything within her told her not to go back in, but Scarlet was there, somewhere, and perhaps it wasn't just her cousin's paranoia that someone might try to harm her. Scarlet was very paranoid, and going mad, and Astra knew she had to stay away from her. On the other hand, this was family, her only family, and if someone really was trying to hurt her, Astra needed to find out more.

The guards let her in without issue, as they always did. They were used to seeing her with the duchess. She mounted the stairs with a nod to the guard who had brought in the dogs, but she didn't see such animals about. Perhaps he'd changed his mind. She cautiously mounted the long stairwell to the top floor, nervously nibbling her lip, and knocked upon the double doors. Instead of Scarlet's voice, she heard the king telling her to enter, so she came into the room.

There was Fenrir, seated before the king. Astra wasn't sure what to do with herself, as she didn't like interrupting them, for surely it was business, and business, while boring, was important stuff. However, Fenrir patted the seat beside him, and smiled warmly to her, so she gratefully sat down next to him. He was her safety. There was nothing that could happen to her while he was here. The king addressed her, "Hello, miss," and smiled. "Hello," she replied with a shy blush.

Fenrir looked over to Adair, "This is Lady Astra, the one whom I spoke to you of." Adair nodded, looking back to her again, "Yes, I believe we met the other day."

"Yes, the rock," she reminded him. He rubbed his temple wearily, as Fenrir inquired, curiously, "Rock?"

"Yes, a uhm, possessed rock that turned into a man, or something," her nose wrinkled. She wouldn't forget the pain for a long time, if ever.

"Sounds like a nusiance more than anything," Fenrir decided, to which Adair agreed, and Astra also nodded her assent. The men went back to their business, and her attention was actually drawn to it, this time. It was boring, but less so when she was listening to Adair inform Fenrir of his duties, and how they would mix with her cousin's affairs.

Suddenly the king's attention was back on her again, "So I hear you are interested in joining the Academy?" She blinked softly in surprise, then blushed again, nodding, "I am. I ... learned the other day with the rock thing how little I actually know. I mean, saying words is one thing, knowing them is completely another."

"I encourage you to follow your dreams regardless what others suggest for you," Adair smiled to her, reassuringly. It was very hard to not like this man, Astra decided, despite the fact that he was Light and had hurt her. Surely he hadn't meant to. He didn't know her secrets. "Fenrir thinks it's a good idea," she informed him. Fenrir smiled to her, and her world lit up again as he patted her arm, gently.

"My mother used to say, let no one withhold knowledge from you," Adair told her, "and my father used to say 'Aye, beat it out of them!'" She giggled as he smiled. His smile lit up his entire face, and it was a nice face. "It's been a foundation of mine for many years," he concluded.

"I never got hit," she mused, and she thought of Adair getting hit before her mind traveled to her cousin, whom she was sure had probably been hit a lot. Their family wasn't the best when it came to not hitting people, except for her mother. The realization of how blessed she was encompassed her.

"Well, you are seeking knowledge yes?" Adair broke her from that small reverie, and she nodded. "I believe you are the one to do the beating," he continued.

Her eyes widened a moment, then she blinked gently, "I don't want to beat anyone."

"Ask Fenrir, sometimes you have to, to get what you want."

She looked up to Fenrir and smiled, utterly reassured, "Fenrir can beat them for me! He's very good at beating things!" As he looked back to her, there was a sparkle in his eye, and she wasn't sure exactly what he meant when he informed her, "Sometimes it is indeed necessary to work someone over to get what you need."

Astra felt there was something she was missing as Adair sighed, "I guess it's a lesson still to learn my dear. If you aren't willing to do the work yourself, then you don't deserve the prize. However, I digress."

He looked back to Fenrir, "I'd like to know about the dogs. You can-" But Astra broke in, with a bright smile, "Oh! Dogs! The dogs in here you mean?" Adair's brow lifted, looking back to the girl, "Oh, ok, well that was hard. Yes, yes the dogs in here." He seemed almost amused as Fenrir added, "We found some dogs in here, within the bedroom, this office, the training room."

Aha! This was why she had come. Maybe they knew something she didn't. Maybe they could tell her if someone really was going to hurt her cousin, or not, or if Scarlet was simply, truly mad. Any more she didn't know what to believe coming out of Scarlet's mouth. "Oh, because Scarlet thinks someone is going to asassanate her. So the guard brought in dogs, to sniff things out, and I was sneaking, watching her, and I left so they didn't sniff me out," she informed them. Besides, she was certain that if someone was after Scarlet, and it was true, perhaps they'd be after other people, as well. Not only that, but if the king was aware of it, he could protect Scarlet! Much better than Astra could ever.

Fenrir frowned, thoughtfully, " I wonder why she feels that way. I know no one that harbors ill will towards her, not openly, at least." Suddenly he stood up, "I must take my leave for now. You two be careful." He smiled gently to Astra, though she could see the concern in his eyes, and squeezed her hand. She tried to smile back, to reassure him as well, but his hand faded from her own and he was gone, just like that.

Slowly she looked back to the King. She was alone with him. Her eyes widened at the thought. What if he did his prayers!? Could she control herself? Would she burst out? She couldn't burst out, she couldn't let that happen. It was almost a prayer in itself, a mantra as he looked to her seriously. Would he remember what happened when she fled the rock man?

"Anyway, this is worrisome," he said. Astra winced. If he's worried, maybe there's something to really worry about! "That was why I came, to see if you knew about someone trying to assassinate her, or if it's just another of her fears," she admitted.

Adair smiled, wryly, "Well, before we get to that, I have a few questions, my dear."

She blinked softly in surprise. Questions? What questions? She didn't know anything. Did he suspect her? Was he thinking about the rock man? How could she get out of this? Fenrir had left her! She wasn't safe!

The Road to Madness

The Road to Madness

They were all so small, undersized. I could have held them both in my hands, just like confined little creatures. I even compared them to little ants; a black one, and a fire ant. The one in flames was trying to give me life lessons from one that had barely lived, and one that have experienced an easy life, at that. It's only when you meet true enemies, that you would understand how trading deals can be beneficial. The darker one was simply watching, appreciating the argument between Astra and I.

My red feathered wings were large enough to spread, from a wall to its opposite, while still not being fully extended. It had already been a few hours since my cousin and I started this peaceful war and my succubus form had drained most of my energy to fight. I knew I wouldn't be able to express myself correctly or even to share a tenth of what I was truly thinking or feeling. So, of course, Astra left after being tired to argue with me, and Samael offered me his calm presence and a helping hand. Sometimes, I did truly appreciate him.

He brought me back into this strange room, lost in time and space, hanging in the middle of pure darkness. In time like these, I always felt as if he tried to protect me, somehow, from the hurtful situations I encountered outside. Perhaps I could be wrong about him, but I could feel he was able to tame my panic and distress with almost a suspicious ease. He made his way through the infinite red drapes, flowing down through the floor, while gently holding my hand. While I followed his steps, my feathers thinned in swirls of red smoke, shrinking me back to a conventional size. Silence and understanding were the key to it, it seemed like confrontation just made it worse. -He- knew.

Hatred told me he had a little surprise ready for me. I was curious, since he always offers me the most outstanding presents, but also stressed to what it could be. I knew our contract was pulling towards the end, and I was starting to wonder if I wasn't to finally reach the goal of a lifetime. I had given him everything he asked, and had nothing more to offer... perhaps the end had come? He abruptly stopped walking to turn to face me, sliding quickly behind to cover my eyes with his hands. Whispering the remaining directions into my ears, I blindly took the last careful steps towards his -surprise-. His cold hands slithering down towards my shoulders, in a perverted caress, he guided me to stand in front of the mysterious present.

I first opened my eyes to a blurred setting, still dizzy from my argument with Astra. Shades of deep crimson and pinkish skin slowly added to other features I knew too well; those ardent warm iris, those pointy ears, this perfection. My own sight was in complete disbelief. I felt my heart pounding so fast, that I thought it would race out of my chest. The air felt heavy and warm, mixing with an overwhelming feeling I had forgotten; Happiness.

- Malachite?
I asked, detaching myself from Samael, right away. He became invisible as soon as I discovered the nature of his gift. He had offered me the end of my deal.

- Scarlet, dear, it's just his body, empty of all conscience and emotion. I already made sure his soul was resting in a safest place. Aren't you satisfied already?

Samael's voice was barely an echo. I couldn't help but to wrap my arms around the most precious being I had ever lost; my other half. His skin was cold and his stare lifeless, but everything else was perfect. Maybe, I shouldn't be stopping so close of my true goal? The one I didn't tell hatred about.

- Samael... can I ask you a last favour, please? Since you know where his soul is, bring him back! Bring him back to life! Didn't you say you were powerful enough to?

Wearing his usual porcelain mask, I failed to see the sick smile he was concealing underneath it. He nodded and disappeared from the dark room a few minutes, while I was still contemplating the perfect image of what I had lost. The events that followed are unclear in my mind, since I'm not even sure I paid attention to anything else other than Malachite. He was there, I had succeeded. My part of the plan was to go exactly as I had planed and this nightmarish existence would soon be replaced by an undisturbed future. Hatred would lose interest in me very soon and I'll withdraw on my island with Malachite. At last... A noise pulled me back from my rêverie and I noticed Samael had tried to catch my attention since a while, when I was still entranced by my twin brother.

(...)

Malachite was now resting in my room. I had taken care of him while he was still weak... It must be a long way coming back from the kingdom of the dead. He had asked me many questions regarding where we were, but his stare was constantly losing itself into confusion... he needed to rest. Despite my craving for his attention, his wellbeing was vital. I would remain by his side until he feels better and would happily look after his every need, like he used to do with me, in the past.
